The Nordic Walking UK Competence card is growing in popularity and new benefits for card holders are being added regularly – read on to find out more about the scheme and how to get involved. Nordic Walking UK has devised a specific way of learning not only the technique but also how, why and when Nordic walking can be used effectively to get maximum health and fitness improvements.
The 4 session course breaks the Nordic Walking technique into bitesize chunks which allow participants to focus on one element at a time and gradually enables them to use the poles at an intensity that is safe but effective.
The course is a standardised teaching process which is taught by Instructors who have attended specific training in the delivery of this and other unique programmes devised by Nordic Walking UK. These Instructors and projects are known as DELIVERY PARTNERS and can be identified by the badge shown here.

This network of Instructors ALL teach the standardised process and issue the NWUK competence card which is a signal that the participant has not just mastered the basics of Nordic Walking technique but also understands the correct level of intensity required to stay safe and get results. This simple system also enables Walk Leaders and Community Instructors to lead walks for those with the card, safe in the knowledge that a professional Instructor has assessed their health, fitness level and technique. This protects both the leaders and participants and in many cases enables to card holder to access a greater variety of walks across the UK.

There are now over 100 Independent NWUK Instructors who issue the card and will accept holders on their walks. The following Community projects also run the programmes and provide affordable walks across the UK.
