We have teamed up with Ordnance survey to give you discounted access to what we think is the best route planning tool out there
There are few better ways to explore and savour the coastlines, cities, mountains and meadows of Great Britain than discovering the landscape with an OS map. Whether you want to head off an a walk or enjoy a day out or holiday, OS getamap – the adventure planner from Ordnance Survey – has everything you need to get the best from your trip and make it truly memorable.
With OS getamap, you have full access to use, draw routes on, and print off A4 OS leisure maps for the whole of Great Britain. All you have to do is search for the area you want to visit and then create your route or check out a range of attractions and interesting places in the area to visit.
ADD PLACES OF INTEREST OR LOCAL ATTRACTIONS It’s ideal for both finding amazing places to walk and see, and for planning all your getaways. There are thousands of places to see and attractions, including National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, nature reserves, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, castle, historical buildings, museums, breweries, markets and much more. There are also hundreds of pubs from The Good Pub Guide and places to eat and stay.
You can then mark these on your map and on routes you’ve created, and you can also use routes from other users and the AA, Country Walking and Trail Magazine. As well as printing your route, you can also print your route card which shows the elevation profile of your route and information on each waypoint along the way. You can also share routes and export them to your GPS device to follow while you’re out with the poles.
PRINTING YOUR MAPS
You can print maps in both OS Explorer and OS Landranger scale. OS Explorer Maps (1:25 000 scale) are the most detailed – they’re ideal for walking adventures with your poles, as they show rights of way such as footpaths, bridleways and trails, boundaries, landscape features and places of interest. OS Landranger Maps (1:50 000 scale) are great for days out and short breaks to discover an area, covering a larger area in less detail and showing tourist information, roads and landscape features.
