The stunning Dorset coastline

As the excitement of the Olympics dies away and the end of summer holidays draws ever closer, don’t despair because that means we are heading into the most glorious nordic walking season!

AUTUMN is perfect for nordic walking and NOW is the time to book a relaxing nordic walking break – read on for a suggestion of where to go this year inspired by seeing stunning Weymouth on the TV as it hosted the sailing events.

DORSET

This stunning county has NO motorways, NO Cities and miles and miles of stunning world heritage coastline, famous for it’s fossils.Inland, the rolling hills are glorious at any time of year but in the Autumn they are breathtaking.

One of the best areas for walking is on the ISLE OF PURBECK which is often missed by holiday makers heading for the traditional seaside resorts further along the coast. Not technically an island but bordered by wonderful coastline on three sides and a river on the fourth it feels like another world! Easy to get to, yet tranquil with areas of outstanding natural beauty around every corner this area of DORSET is blessed with footpaths that cry out for nordic walkers. From the South west coastal path to the Purbeck way and Wareham forest walks the sceneray incoropates everything from sweeping sand to rugged heathland. Here are two of our favourite walks plus information about NORDIC WALKING breaks in the area.

CORFE CASTLE TO SWANAGE VIA NINE BARROW DOWN

This route is 5.5 miles and you can either pop back to the delightful Corfe Castle on the steam railway or take a number of other routes back if you want to make a day of it! The route heads out of the Village and up on the downs where you can take in views of Poole Harbour and the Isle of Purbeck in it’s full glory.

KIMMERIDGE BAY TO LULWORTH COVE
