Once again NWUK Instructors have gone the extra mile (literally in some cases) to raise awareness and money for some great causes – some we have featured before and others are new to this blog.
Alice Denham and her 4 companions have completed the 110 mile Nordic walk that followed the journey of the ambulances that took them to Addenbrookes hospital where they were treated for brain aneurysms. As survivors they have proved that the care they received and in Alice’s case the exercise programme of Nordic walking that followed, can help people through this frightening experience.
The team have raised over £8,300 so far and their target is £10.000 so please read their story and be inspired to help them reach it. Well done to all of you! Read more here

Trainee NWUK Instructor Tony Dunne is walking proof that exercising in the great outdoors is a fantastic way to combat depression. He recently walked the 100k London to Brighton challenge in order to raise both money and awareness of how exercise can help people combat mental illness. Read his story here

Duncan Barratt has featured in many a post in the past as he has encouraged and inspired people of all ages to Nordic walk since taking his CYQ Instructor qualification despite being in his late sixties. Duncan whose training was funded by his local sports partnership (Bucks & Milton Keynes sports) has worked with them to not only encourage the seniors in his village to be more active (his original plan) but has worked with slimming clubs and even scout groups in a bid to provide low cost exercise for all. His work attracted the notice of the Olympic organising committee prior to the games last year and he recently rallied his walkers to be interviewed on the Radio in a bid to prove that the Olympic legacy is working!

Deirdre Abram Nordic walked the gruelling Lyke Wake walk challenge which is 26 miles across wild, boggy and sometimes bleak terrain in the North York moors. She recounts her story here and is delighted to back at home with her blistered feet up! She raised £600 for the Brain and Spine Foundation and her walking partner raised money for MacMillan nurses. Well done to you both! Read her account of the walk here
