Once again we have a lively round up of news from around the UK to share with you all.

NORDIC WALKING TO THE SOUND OF MUSIC!

lausanne marathonRosie Marler and her group of 7 intrepid Nordic Walkers who are based on the Suffolk Coast made the trip to Lausanne in Switzerland where they joined over 12,000 others to run and walk around a variety of routes. The Nordic walkers chose the 10k event and as the picture shows enjoyed breathtaking scenery as they explored this amazing lakeside city.

NOTHING’S GOING TO STOOP THEM NOW!

Mel Thomas and her Fithaven Nordic walkers took part in their very own challenge fithaven stoop picture 2 fithaven stoop challengeon Sunday 28th September. when they took on the 28 mile route known as the STOOP(Stevenage Outer Orbital Path).

Mel said “Absolutely stunning weather and ever-changing scenery helped as on our journey as we took to the well maintained routes through the lovely little villages and hamlets that surround Stevenage.  We had about 5 pit-stops at various watering holes to refuel, refresh and change plasters (for some!) and as a ‘team’ we finished at 7pm back and the pub to a well deserved celebratory drink.  I am absolutely over the moon with our achievement, and that includes little Millie ( the Dog ) too, who must have power pawed her way around at least 10 more miles than we did.  What is even more amazing is that ALL of the men who came were over 70 years of age and the ladies ranged from early/late 40’s through to 60+ putting the youngsters of today to shame!!! This was certainly the most challenging walk I have ever done, even for those who have walked a marathon before  agreed and without walking as a group like we did, providing support, encouragement and lots of laughs half of us would have never finished it – but we DID!!! ”

THEY DON’T DO THINGS BY HALF IN CHICHESTER!

chichesterThis group from Chichester supported their local half marathon which put on a special category for Nordic Walking.

Local Instructors Charles Farrant and Sylvia May led the way with the following times 3.11.54 and 3.11.20 respectively. The whole team had a ball and agreed that it’s much easier to cover 13 miles when chatting and stopping now and then!
If you fancy training up to compete next year – we will be running training camps and have even designed a training plan. Come on Instructors ….give your group a challenge to train up for!
bart polandSTEPPING OUT ON POLISH TV!
Instructor Bart Piotrowicz took his regular walkers from the Stepping out group in Lytham St Anne’s and Preston to his homeland of Poland where they saw the sights and linked up with Polish Nordic walkers too. Bart took part in one of the many race events out there and the group were even featured on TV!
TOWCESTER GROUP GO YELLOW FOR A GOOD CAUSE!
marie curie towcester groupNow we usually like to see a lot of our signature colour of purple here at NWUK but this bunch of Nordic walkers went yellow for a very good cause when they completed the Marie Curie 10 k in Kettering in September!
John Hounsham told us that it was a great night with over 800 people taking part and raising funds.
